Feasibility studies

The start of any project includes a analysis of the current situation, water resources, what is possible within the framework circumstances, need, environment, current infrastructure and supply (if any) as well as regulatory requirements and a technical and economic feasibility study.

Once this is complete, a work scope needs to be drawn up and agreed which may include further research and data collection, further review of issues and fieldwork into potential solutions and alternatives.

Clean and waste water design

"Clean water" has been described as "water that will not harm you if you come in contact with it.” (United States Geological Survey).  It's most often referred to when talking about drinking water but also includes that water used for bathing and brushing teeth, washing dishes and clothes, cleaning, watering crops, food preparation and swimming.

"Waste water" usually means all water that has been used in homes, businesses, agriculture and industry as well as rain which falls in places where it isn't collected for our use (roofs, pavements, streets etc) which then goes into the sewerage system.  However the term is most accurately used to refer to water which has been used and rainfall is then referred to as "surface water run-off".  Sewerage is a term which is used specifically to describe a mix of waste water and excrement.

A "sewerage system", "sewers" and "sewerage" are the terms used to describe the infrastructure used to transport waste water for disposal or to treatment plants.

It is absolutely (and obviously) vital that in any water supply, there is the least chance of contamination of clean water with waste water.

At Simo Sim, we have an excellent record of meeting the strict environmental regulations that help to keep our water safe, as well as lengthy experience in the design, construction and operation of all types of water and waste water movement structures in a large variety of regions both in the UK and abroad.

Sub-contracting on large water proposals, construction support, pumping stations and treatment works

As well as working directly for private and commercial clients, we also have experience of sub-contracting to provide specific services as part of a project whole. With a certified track record in being able to work proactively and successfully with project managers and other contractors we have contributed to the following:

Water Infrastructure Asset Management

Water infrastructure asset management is the process of recognising what assets make up your clean and waste water systems and then proactively planning hwo to repair and/or replace them, based on which present the most risk. An asset management plan should not only manage your risks but also be cost effective and ensure your costs stay within budget.  The team at Simo Sim have extensive experience in developing asset management plans as well as managing and developing existing ones.

Maintenance evaluation

A review of the existing maintenance task and its associated frequency to provide an optimal and lean maintenance strategy.

Information management

This is the management of asset data to provide evidence of working practices to understand symptoms and provide sustainable solutions.

Resilience analysis

This involves a maturity assessment of the asset base to provide a forward thinking, best practice approach to the resilience of the infrastructure.
