Case Study Phosporus Removal from Domestic Waste Water
The Environment Agency recently reviewed phosphorous limits at multiple locations across England & Wales. The result of this review was to reduce limits at certain locations which in itself has formed potential projects with many water companies. SimoSim has helped such water companies to reduce local limits with the use of various tertiary treatment solutions including cloth filtration and pressurised media vessels both supported with chemical coagulation. The work involved reviewing site locations to understand available space and footprints, optioneering on different equipment packages and costings to provide the most efficient TOTEX solutions.

Backwash turbidity reduction for a clean water works
SimoSim assisted a UK water company to reduce return to works turbidity levels at a Water Treatment Works. The scheme involved reviewing sample data from the wastewater stream which included backwash cycles from the RGF filters & Sandwasher Plant. Over a period of time this provided an insight into particular turbidity levels which are measured in Nephelomtric Turbidity Units (NTU). This data was used to develop a package plant design consisting of Chemical Mixing Tanks and Lamella units. SimoSim developed an outline design including ancillary equipment and costing data.

Eel screens at river intakes
As part of the 2009 Eel Regulations The Environment Agency selected a number of locations across the England & Wales to locate new Eel screens to reduce the amount of Eels accidently finding their way into Water Treatment Intakes. SimoSim reviewed a number of locations and provided feasibility and outline designs to support the local needs. This included reviewing different screen suppliers including Hydrolox & GoFlo and designing suitable and lean washwater systems for the launder and screen cleaning cycles.
